Pissouri\u2019s hillsides and lanes hold seven churches and chapels, from the grand 1880s parish church at the village centre to tiny rock-cut shrines reachable only on foot.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n

Church of Apostolos Andreas<\/h4>\n\n\n

Pissouri Village square · Feast day 30 November & 20 September<\/p>\n\n

The parish church at the centre of the village, built between 1870 and 1882 by local volunteers using stone brought by donkey cart from Anogyra and Prasteio. Its Gothic-influenced design has a rectangular plan, triangular roof ledges, and interior stone arches without a dome or columns. The hand-carved iconostasis took a decade to complete, finished in 1890, and the church holds icons from as early as the 15th and 18th centuries. It was consecrated in 1912 and remains in regular use today, with commanding views over the village and valley towards Limassol.<\/p>\n\n

Agios Mavrikios<\/h4>\n\n\n

Hillside between the village and the bay · Feast day 12 September<\/p>\n\n

A small, still-active church at the head of the valley separating Pissouri Village from Pissouri Bay, with views over the surrounding hills. Local tradition associates the church with the healing of skin blisters.<\/p>\n\n

Agios Spiridonas Chapel<\/h4>\n\n\n

Eastern side of Pissouri Bay · Feast day 12 December<\/p>\n\n

A modest, whitewashed chapel built into a rock face above the bay, with a natural rock ceiling and a small courtyard. Largely inactive today but reachable via the lanes winding through the vineyards and olive groves above the shore.<\/p>\n\n

Panayia Akonopetra Church<\/h4>\n\n\n

Hillside west of the village amphitheatre · Dedicated to the Virgin Mary<\/p>\n\n

Set on a hill with commanding views over the village and the plains to the east. Access is limited, but the setting alone makes the short walk up worthwhile.<\/p>\n\n

Prophet Elias Chapel<\/h4>\n\n\n

Saint Elias hillside, west of the village · Built 1960<\/p>\n\n

Carved partly into the rock of the hillside, this chapel is said to contain ancient rock paintings. Interior access is limited, but it is a striking short detour for anyone exploring west of the village.<\/p>\n\n

Church of Saint George<\/h4>\n\n\n

Kamaroudi, on the road to Alektora · Built 1958<\/p>\n\n

A well-maintained parish church with an icon-adorned interior, easy to drive past without noticing on the road out towards the neighbouring village of Alektora.<\/p>\n\n

Saint Lazarus (Anglican Church)<\/h4>\n\n\n

Pissouri Community Amphitheatre · Bi-monthly communion<\/p>\n\n

An Anglican congregation that meets under the village amphitheatre, holding communion services roughly every two months for the local international community.<\/p>\n\n

Visiting respectfully<\/strong>
Most chapels are small, unstaffed, and only occasionally open outside their feast days \u2014 treat a locked door as normal rather than a sign to force entry. Dress modestly (shoulders and knees covered) and keep voices low if a service is in progress.
